A couple of years ago, we decided to change the life we were living- tip it on it’s head, really. Karl decided he wanted to see this great land of Australia, while our four children (now 11, 8, 6 and just almost 3) were young enough. I agreed after the initial shock wore off ( I was a little behind on his vision).
So, long story short, he started to plan for this crazy idea- that we would live in a bus. We purchased Betty- a 1980-something Denning double decker bus in December of 2013, and Karl brought her home all the way from Adelaide to Esperance. She was just a plain coach, ugly blue seats and all. Karl and his dad started to strip the bus out, and re-fit it like a home. After 15 months of hard work, Betty was finished, we sold our house, and began our travels in April of 2015.
We have found we have travelled a lot less than planned over the past 9 months (we have been as far north as Kalbarri, spent a lot of time in the wheatbelt, and had a few trips back to Esperance too), but we have still seen so much. We love our life. We are able to stop and smell the roses, in between our work. No place ever gets old.
I homeschool our three school age kids (while the little guy interrupts frequently, bless his cotton socks), and the kids have learnt so much being on the road.
If you want to follow us , we would love to have you along for the journey! Follow us on our Facebook page. We are heading back up to Geraldton in the next week, and travelling up the north coast of WA, so if you would like any seat covers (we can fit them if we are nearby, or postage is free Australia Wide) or limited motor trimming done (canopies, patio blinds, etc), we have a trailer with us which is our mobile shop. Our workshop is also still operating in Esperance, with a fantastic team holding the reigns. If we are heading your way, we would love your support, and will happily provide a competitive quote, just give us a call on 1300 103 103.
